Nalini Paul

Writing Fellow 2009-10

Nalini was born in India and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. She has spent most of her adult life in Scotland. She graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2008 with a PhD on Jean Rhys and postcolonial female subjectivity.

In her writing she explores subjects of memory and migration. Her first pamphlet of poems, Skirlags was published by Red Squirrel Press in 2009. It was shortlisted for the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award the following year.

During her residency, which was divided between writing projects in the community and developing her own work, she worked on a second poetry pamphlet collection, Slokt by Sea, later published by Red Squirrel Press. She has also made progress with her novel, a fictionalised account of her family history.
