We are excited to be working on a new publication of writing in Orkney language from the Orkney Voices writing group for the Centenary of the birth of George Mackay Brown.
While the writer used very little Orcadian in his own work, he was interested in the writing of others who did. He described Robert Rendall’s “Fisherman” in Lyrics and Orkney Poems as “a perfect poem” and wrote warmly of Ann Scott-Moncrieff’s narrative poem “The Brig o Waith” written in a mixture of Orcadian and Scots.
More details of the forthcoming volume will appear here in the months ahead.
